Deciding on the perfect style that will compliment your timber flooring can be challenging for most. We have created 4 blog posts that we will release over the next 4 weeks to help with these challenges. This week we start with light timber floors.
The undertones of timber play a significant role in your styling, just like the undertones in paint colors. Timber can be classified into three categories: warm, neutral, and cool. While many timbers tend to have warm undertones, which are characterized by a reddish or yellowish hue, not all do. To create a cohesive look, it's important to identify the undertone of your dominant timber and choose other timber that share the same undertone. If your dominant timber has warm undertones, consider pairing it with other warm-toned timbers in different shades. If it has cool undertones, such as grey, opt for other cool-toned timbers. Mixing warm and cool undertones can create an eclectic look, but requires careful balance. If you want to try something different, you can also mix neutral tones with either warm or cool undertones in moderation.
Light timber flooring can be a versatile option that complements a variety of interior styles, including:
Scandinavian: This style is characterized by light timber tones, minimalism, and clean lines. It can create a warm and inviting atmosphere with light timber flooring, especially when paired with white walls and neutral-toned furniture. In Scandinavian homes, timber floors are a common feature. However, it's typical to see these floors paired with a rug for added warmth and texture. The rug serves to break up the monotony of the expanse of timber and creates visual interest. Furthermore, many Scandinavian homes feature open floor plans, with the same flooring throughout, making rugs an effective tool for defining different zones within the space.
Coastal: This style incorporates natural elements like light timber and ocean hues to create a beachy and relaxed atmosphere. Light timber flooring can help to bring a coastal vibe to a space, especially when paired with white-washed furniture and ocean-inspired accents.
Modern Farmhouse: This style combines contemporary elements with traditional farmhouse elements, like reclaimed timber. Light timber flooring can complement this style, especially when paired with VJ panelled walls and rustic furniture pieces.
Mid-Century Modern: This style is characterised by clean lines, neutral colors, and natural materials. Light timber flooring can be a great choice for a mid-century modern space, especially when paired with vintage furniture pieces and geometric accents.
